SELECTS HOCKEY COACHING STAFF

Glenn Merkosky

Glenn Merkosky begins his 11th season as a member of Detroit’s scouting staff and 18th season overall with the organization. His primary responsibilities include scouting the American Hockey League and identifying minor league talent for the Red Wings. He also scouts the National Hockey League, evaluating players for Detroit.

During his time with the Red Wings, Merkosky served as both a head coach and an assistant coach for the team’s former minor league affiliate, the Adirondack Red Wings. He played 66 career games in the NHL, including 20 with Detroit.

Glenn resides in Glens Falls, New York with his wife, Jennifer. They have four children.
 
Jim Paek

Jim Paek is currently entering his 5th season as an Assistant Coach with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Paek became the first Korean to both play in the NHL and have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup. In recognition of those accomplishments, Paek’s Penguins jersey is displayed in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. Paek won 2 Stanley Cups as a player with the Pittsburg Penguins in 1991 & 1992. Jim enjoyed a 16 year professional playing career.
Paek and his wife, Kortney, have two children, Megan and Kyler.
 
Travis Howe

Travis, along with his uncle Marty Howe, is currently the managing director of Power Play International (Gordie Howe’s company). Prior to that, Travis served as the Head Coach of the Syracuse Stars Jr. A team (Syracuse, NY) which played both in the EJHL (Eastern Junior Hockey League) and the OPJHL (Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League). He formally was the Coaching Coordinator for the Flyers Youth Hockey Club and was the Hockey Director at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ which is the practice facility for the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers and AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms. He has also run coaches workshops for USA Hockey. Travis has spent many hours scouting with his father Mark Howe (who is the Director of Pro Scouting for the Detroit Red Wings). Travis was a former youth hockey player for the Little Caesars & Compuware Midget AAA organizations.

He is the grandson of Gordie Howe, the son of Mark Howe (former NHL player), and the nephew of Marty Howe (former NHL player and Chicago Wolves Asst. Coach of AHL). Travis currently resides in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
 
Steve Dubinsky

After a career at Clarkson University that saw him score 152 points in 140 collegiate games, Steve went on to play 10 seasons in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks Calgary Flames, Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues.

Originally from Montreal, Quebec, Steve is currently the director of the Glacier Hockey Zone, Chicago's premier year round hockey skills training facility. Steve is also the coaching director of the Cougars youth hockey organization, a nationally recognized youth hockey program based in Chicago.
 
John St. Pierre

Originally from Montreal, John played his college hockey career at the University of Maine and the University of Southern Maine.

John was an assistant coach with the Chicago Freeze of the North American Hockey League from 1996-1998. In 1996 and 1997 John was the Head Coach of the Maine All State Juniors and coached the team in the Hannige Junior cup in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1997, John was also the Head Coach for the Midwest Selects (Best 16-18 year old players in the Midwest) in the Czech Challenge Cup in Prague, Czech Republic.

John works with several NHL Agents, NCAA, CHL and US prep school scouting staffs. John has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and is currently the President and Co-Founder of Rhombus Services a nationwide installation & service company based in Philadelphia.
 
Joe Templin

Joe grew up in Lebanon, PA and played his youth hockey as a goaltender in the Hershey Junior Bears organization through Midgets. He joined the University of Scranton Royals varsity hockey team in 1994 while pursuing a Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (1998).

Joe began his coaching career in 1999 with Father Judge (Philadelphia, PA) working with their Jr. Varsity program. In 2001, he started coaching with the Flyers Youth organization (NJ) where he coached at the Bantam level and also served as the goaltending instructor for the entire organization. He also provides private goalie instruction in locations across southern New Jersey.

As a co-founder of Selects Sports Management, Joe currently serves as the Vice President along with head scout of Selects Hockey. He works closely with numerous NCAA, USHL and CHL programs providing player scouting and evaluation input. Joe currently resides in Mount Laurel, NJ.
 
Travis Bezio, CPA

Travis Bezio, CPA is originally from Milton, Vermont, played collegiate hockey for the University of Southern Maine in Portland, Maine. Travis finished his playing career at USM setting nearly every offensive scoring record in school history, many that still stand today. In 2007, Travis was the fifth ice hockey player in school history inducted into the University of Southern Maine athletic Hall of Fame. Following graduation, Travis played a season in Lulea, Sweden.

Following his playing career, Travis was the head coach at class A South Portland High School in Maine, leading his team to new victory records each of his three seasons there. Travis a was a multiple time coach of the year nominee in the Maine Headmasters Association.

Additionally, Travis is a veteran instructor at numerous junior hockey schools and camps.
 
Kjell Aigner

Kjell is well educated and trained within Swedish youth hockey via the Hockey federation he has several diplomas; Step 1 and 2 on ice, theory and physician HUT-Higher Youth Training diploma. This together allows him to practice up to junior 20 elite level in Sweden.

Kjell has an extensive and successful experience as coach during the last 10 years,

within teams like Djurgården, Flemingsberg and MB Hockey. He is now heading Nacka Team 93 as well as 92 He is co-founder and Director of A3 Hockey. Prior to A3 he was on the board for MB Hockey, divisional 1 association.

His playing career was with the MB Hockey vets. Kjell will serve as the co-coach for the World Selects 93 team with Travis Howe in April.
 
Mitch Larnerd

Mitch Larnerd currently resides in West Berlin, New Jersey. Mitch is the US Director of Selects Local Programs

Mitch coached for seven years with the Flyers Youth Program and has coached at the Midget through Pw. Mitch is the 95 AAA Team Comcast Head Coach, for the 2009-2010 season. Mitch was a coach for the East Coast Selects '93 team and is the Head Coach of the '96 East Coast Selects - Ontario team.

Previously, Mitch worked for four years under Vladislav Tretiak as a Head Goalie Instructor. Mitch currently holds a level 4 coaching certification with USA Hockey.

During Mitch's playing years, he was a goalie and played Tier I Hockey for the Philadelphia Little Flyers and Jr. Flyers Jr. B. (Squirt-Jr. B). Mitch participated in the USA Hockey Select 16 camp and program, and played in Hockey Night in Boston (#2 ranked goaltender in Tourney). Mitch then went on to play Junior A in the Skaskatuan Junior A League. Mitch then played for Nichols College and attended the camp for the Detroit Vipers of the old IHL.
 
Matt Barth

Originally from Fargo, North Dakota, Matt played his youth hockey with the Fargo Northside Raiders. Matt moved on to play two years of junior hockey, at the Junior B and Junior A levels, respectively.

Following the end of his junior career, Matt has worked as a junior scout since 2003. He has worked for the Binghamton Jr. Senators (2003-2005) and the Syracuse Stars of the EJHL (2005-2007), recruiting Michigan players for each program respectively. He currently works for the Indiana Ice of the USHL as the team's Michigan scout, watching U16 AAA and Michigan high school hockey teams.

In 2007, Matt started with the Selects Hockey program as a scout and coach with the 94 West Coast Selects team. Matt contiues to scout for the Selects Hockey program and coach with our West Coast Selects teams.
 
David Pavlik

David Pavlik, a native of the Czech Republic, played his youth hockey for HC Moeller in Pardubice. He continued playing in Czech through Junior AAA as a member of the Czech Junior National Team. David chose to pursue opportunities in professional hockey and immigrated to the United States at the age of 18. Before injuries ended his playing career, he played in Europe, Russia and North America.

In 2006, David relocated from Tampa Florida to Vermont. Now focusing on coaching youth hockey, David is the founder and head coach of Vermont Flames Hockey, a summer hockey school dedicated to developing the abilities of players in Central Vermont and surrounding areas.
 
Jason Nicholetts

Jason Nicholetts grew up and played his minor and Junior Hockey in the Hockey hot bed of Thunder Bay Ontario. After his playing days Jason decided to set his sites on developing young Hockey players through Coaching. Jason has worked with the likes of Patrick Sharp, (Chicago Black Hawks) Carter Hutton (University of Massachusetts) and others. Jason has Coached and developed young Hockey Players from the Initiation to Junior Levels, at the AA and AAA level for his entire 15 year Coaching career and is recognized as a Developmental 2 Coach within Hockey Canada NCCP Coaching Citeria. Jason is also an instructor for Norme Lacombes HIT Program and Jeff Serowiks Pro Ambitions camps (www.proambitions.com). He is also an Assistant Coach with Chicago's team Brick. Jason's passion and dedication to development is second to none and he prides himself on motivating and ensuring each kid has a positive experience and develops to their maximum potential.
 
Adrien Chabot

Adrien grew up playing hockey in Northern BC and has since switched his passion to coaching young athletes. Adrien has been coaching at various levels for the past 16 years. He has coached virtually every level of athlete, from tykes up to Senior mens teams. Adrien has many years coaching and evaluating at the high performance level. Currently, Adrien works with the local Jr. "A" Spruce Kings and is a certified Coach Instructor for BC Hockey.
 
Bill Wager

As the Branch Manager of Cougars Selects - Buffalo, Bill is looking forward to helping develop many young athletes with an intense focus on fundamentals.
His background in hockey is deep, having played his college hockey at The Ohio State University then spending parts of three seasons with the Erie Panthers and Dayton Bombers of the ECHL. Bill's coaching resume is dotted with six years as Assistant Coach at Mercyhurst Preparatory School, three years as an assistant coach with Team Erie U18 AAA, three years as Coaching Director for Erie Youth Hockey, five years as head instructor at the CJ Herb Goalie School and over ten years experience as goalie coach for the Erie Youth Hockey and Chautauqua County Youth Hockey Associations.
Bill is now in his third season as an Assistant Coach / Goalie Coach for the Mercyhurst Lakers Div.1 Men's Hockey Team. He also operates Rage in the Cage - Goalie Training based in Erie, Pa. Bill travels between Erie, Buffalo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh giving private lessons, group clinics along with personal evaluations for goaltenders throughout the tri-state region.
Bill and his wife Kathy reside in Harborcreek, Pa with their children Heather and Billy.
 
Kristin Alcorn

Kristi grew up playing her youth hockey in Ontario. She received a scholarship to university where she played 5 years of Div I hockey at Quinnipiac University, where she lead the team as head Captain for 2 consecutive years.

Kristi has also been successful with a career in lacrosse, where she played for both team Ontario and Team Canada, winning a bronze medal at the World Cup in 2003. She received several recognitions including: Ontario rookie of the year, and most defensive player.

Kristi has a Bachelor of Science in Business and Public Relations. She is currently completing her M.B.A. Following graduation, Kristi was also involved with “Life After Hockey program” for NHL Alumni. Reaching out to players to get them involved in programs and organized locations and event workshops for NHL players to attend.

Kristi is a current member of the Brampton Thunder in the CWHL.
 
Bill Downey

Pittsburgh native Bill Downey played his youth hockey for the Pittsburgh Hornets and went on to play junior hockey for the Chicago Freeze of the NAHL. During his career at Penn State University, Bill won three ACHA National Championships, was team captain his senior year, and represented Team USA at the 2003 World University Games.

Bill, who attended the Pittsburgh Penguins NHL training camp, spent time in minor league hockey for the Wheeling Nailers and Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL) and for the Richmond Riverdogs (UHL). Later, he coached with the Reading Royals (ECHL) and was the hockey director of Team Comcast in New Jersey.
In his current position as assistant coach with Penn State, Bill specializes in working with forwards and executing power play and penalty kill units. Additional responsibilities include video analysis, game strategies, and acting as recruiting coordinator for the program.
Bill currently holds a Level 4 coaching certification with USA Hockey.
 
Magnus Ramstrom

Magnus is the Director of European Selects and current head coach for MB Hockey Junior A team in Stockholm. Formerly Magnus was a head hockey instructor with the Djurgarden hockey program of the Swedish Elite League in Stockholm, Sweden.

His hockey coaching experience has helped ECS in recruiting top Swedish hockey players, and also in assisting our program in coordinating our European tours. Magnus is also a amateur scout for International Scouting Services (ISS).

Magnus is a veteran instructor of the Selects Hockey Elite Camps and has been behind the bench for several showcase championship teams in recent seasons.
 
Shayne McCosh

Shayne McCosh is a former 1st rounder to the Kitchener Rangers OHL. After a successful junior career with the Kithener Rangers, Windsor Spitfires and Detroit Jr. Whalers, Shayne signed as a free agent with the Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes franchise. Shayne played 2 years of professional hockey in the US before moving over to Europe where he played in the top leagues in Germany, Austria, Italy and England for 9 years.

During that time he assisted in coaching the junior teams in Austria and Italy over the last 4 years of his playing career.
 
Martine Garland

A 7th round draft pick for the LA Kings, Justin has had extensive hockey playing experience including over 200 minor professional games.

After graduating from Essex High School in Vermont, as the 1993 Burlington Free Press VT player of the year with two state championships, Justin played a post-graduate year at the Taft School. Justin then went onto play at UVM for four years1994-1998. His time as a Catamount included a trip to the NCAA frozen four and an ECAC league championship.

In addition to his playing resume, Justin was assistant coach at Essex High School (Vermont) and head hockey coach at Rice Memorial High School (Vermont) for two years, both years taking the Green Knights to the state semi-finals. Justin also serves as the Head Coach for the Green Mountain Glades Empire Jr. B Hockey team. He has been the head instructor at Martin St. Louis All-American Hockey Camp for the past 9 years and also is the head coach of the ECS Team New England 1993 Team.

Justin has a total of 24 years of playing experience, with 9 years of on ice and off ice coaching. Justin is also a NFTP certified personal trainer and level 5 USA Hockey certified.
 
Brendon Clarke

Brendon grew up in Reading, MA playing minor hockey with the Lowell Jr. Chiefs in the MBHL. He played at Reading High School for 4 years, serving as team captain his senior year. He appeared in the Super 8 State tournament all 4 years, which is unprecedented for a public school team.

After Reading High, Brendon did a PG year at NMH in Northfield, MA and also was voted to assistant captain that year. After NMH, he went out to the USHL to play for for a year with the Dubuque Fighting Saints and later the Boston Junior Bruins in the EJHL. Brendon was recruited to walk-on at Merrimack College, competing in Hockey East for 4 years and finishing with 24 pts. in 100 GP.

Brendon attended the Hartford Wolfpack's training camp in Hartford, CT, and later had a brief stint in the UHL with the Roanoke Valley Vipers. He now works in the IT staffing industry as an account manager and recruiter for Sapphire Technologies.
 
Jason E. Mitchell

Jason grew up in the North Shore of Montreal and played his minor hockey for the Sieurs de Terrebonne. He wasted little time after his playing career and began coaching in 1999.

He is currently the assistant coach for the St-Eustache Vikings Midget AAA team in Montreal during the winter. Additionally, he refereed 10 years up to the junior level in Quebec.

Jason serves as the GM of the Howe Hockey Canada program during the Spring and has coached with Selects Hockey for the past year. Professionally, he also is an events coordinator in the greater Montreal Region.
